Pieceful Designs provides quality and creative machine quilting services ranging from edge-to-edge quilting to Heirloom quilting. Each quilt is your individual work of art and will be treated with utmost care and respect. I use a Gammill Classic Longarm Machine and all quilting is done in my smoke-free home studio.

The following prices are to give you an estimate of quilting costs. I like to meet with you personally to work out a quilting plan. Each quilt is unique and therefore prices will vary. To estimate the costs for quilting your quilt, use the following formula:

Multiply square inches of quilt by the cost per square inch of the type of quilting you would like. (width of quilt X length of quilt to achieve square inches)

For example: Your quilt is 50 inches wide and 70 inches long and you want to have it quilted with an edge-to-edge design (0.015 per square inch)

50 x 70 x .015 = $52.50

(Prices are for Quilting only)

Edge-to-Edge Quilting: $0.015 per square inch (minimum charge $40.00)

This is an all over design using pantographs or free motion quilting.

Edge-to-Edge Quilting with Borders or Sashings:
$0.0175 -0.020 per square inch (minimum charge $50.00)

This is an all over design using pantographs or free motion quilting with the addition of a different design in the borders and sashing.

Custom Quilting: $0.020 - 0.050 per square inch (minimum charge $60)

This is using a more detailed method of quilting that may include using a combination of stencils, cross hatching and other traditional quilting techniques.

Please read the following information about preparing your quilt for machine quilting. Following these suggestions will result in your quilt being transformed from a pieced top to a cherished work of art that you can pass down through the generations.

Preparing Your Quilt Top:

During the machine quilting process it is very important that your quilt lie flat.  Steps taken during quilt construction can help greatly to achieve this.  A few hints:  Press all seams before adding borders.   Prior to adding borders, measure the length and width of your quilt at the centers to determine the border sizes.  These may be slightly different from the outer edges (due to stretching) or what your pattern states.  Pin borders at ends first and then ease in fullness through the middle.  In following these steps you should be able to better keep your quilt square and lying flat.  Taking these extra steps will make the machine quilting easier and result with a more beautiful finished appearance.

Once you have your quilt top pieced, make sure it is square, trim all loose threads, press all seams flat  and stitch 1/4” around all edges to secure seams.

 Preparing Your Quilt Backing:

If your quilt backing needs to be pieced, make sure to remove all fabric selvages. Make sure the backing is big enough for the top. Machine Quilting requires that the backing must be 4 to 6 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. Check to see that the backing is square and pressed. Avoid using fabric blends (60% Cotton 40% Polyester) or tightly woven fabrics such as Batiks as they do not lend themselves well to machine quilting. If you are unsure of how to prepare the quilt backing, please contact me and I can be of help.
